Food Forest
We transformed a section of the Broadway Greenway in Joliet, IL into a Food Forest. With native fruit, nuts, berries, and root plants there is a self-growing source of food for people, animals, and insects year after year. The first phase was planted quite a few years ago but we could not plant the second phase until Spring of 2021. We left the plantings alone to do their thing in 2022 and 2023. In 2024 the plants were established, and now in 2025 you can harvest whenever it´s ready; apples, asparagus, berries, rhubarb, and other good stuff. The food forest is at the corner of Ingalls and Broadway in Joliet. Stop by Rich and Creamy for an ice cream cone and take a walk North through the Broadway Greenway. There´s a statue on the corner. There is no pathway through the food forest at this time. That will be the next phase.
